Mother Nation is an Indigenous led non-profit organization offering culturally informed healing services, mobile advocacy, mentorship, homeless, and homelessness prevention case management and support to MMIWP families unmet needs.  Our services celebrate and inspire the success of Native American women.  Mother Nation services are custom designed to honor the beauty and strength of Native women, with traditional practices, teachings and values built on the ancestral strength of each participant.  Mother Nation is committed to always providing culturally based traditional teachings throughout all service areas.

Mother Nation is active in supporting local grassroots leadership such as Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, Sister Native Homeless Providers, Tribes and Non-Native agencies to build unity in providing safety to Indigenous women and homeless families.  Our goals are to ensure healing and wellness with cultural resilience offering quality service to change the dynamics of Native women and families from the impacts of historical and intergenerational trauma.  Primary services are to stop the violence against Native women through culturally-informed healing services, mobile advocacy, and homeless emergency support.

The successful candidate will be provided excellent training opportunities with traditional teachings, career advancement, ceremonial leave, and a comprehensive health benefits package.

All Yeha:wi Team members provide culturally based and survivor-centered advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and commercial sexual exploitation.  Participants in need of cultural healing services can be referred to Mother Nation’s Cultural Services Team and Yeha:wi healing circles during their transition to new beginnings.  All Mother Nation participants have ongoing full access to the spiritual support needed and guidance from our team of Elders.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct program intake, program entry, and exits.
  • Maintain accurate participant files with timely data collection and reporting.
  • Provide culturally based survivor-centered advocacy, safety planning, identify community resources, information, and referrals.
  • Work with King County legal advocates to guide victims through the criminal justice system, and develops ongoing referral relationships with health, legal and social service system.
  • Co-Facilitate weekly domestic violence groups to support Yeha:wi Team members and facilitators.
  • Join Mother Nation Outreach team conducting street outreach seeking homeless survivors in need of service as required.
  • Refer participant to Mother Nation Cultural Services Team to attend Yeha:wi healing circles, gathering of women sweats, with access to traditional healers and other spiritual needs as identified by survivors.
  • Participate in all Mother Nation Staff Talking Circles, culturally based training, Staff community presentations as required.
  • Refer participants to Mother Nation Homeless Response Team to secure rental assistance, relocation support and other resources.
  • Work one day a week at Spirit Journey House to support Case Manager in resident’s advocacy needs.
  • Develop a safety plan and self-care plan with participants.
  • Prepare check requests with supporting documentation following Mother Nation policy and procedures, track funding expenditures.
  • Collaborates with sister agencies in co-advocating needs of participant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess State Certification of 20 to 30 hours of domestic violence advocacy, sexual assault core advocacy, and commercial sexual exploitation advocacy preferred.
  • Two years of direct experience working with survivors of multi-abuse trauma in Native American communities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or equivalent experience in working with a Native American population of survivors of multi-abuse trauma.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated health and wellness lifestyle to withstand the emotional and physical challenges to offer a trauma-informed work environment for staff and participants.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Have the confidence to handle emergency crisis situations.
  • Skills in Microsoft Office Word Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent writing skills.
  • Vehicle with valid WSDL and insurance; candidate must be able to travel independently between multiple work sites within a day.
  • Sensitive to the cultural integrity of Mother Nation and participants.
